CBS TV Channel 2 News aired an extraordinary piece on February 3 entitled, “Simi Valley Moms Work to Cleanup Radioactive Neighborhood.” The segment profiles the twenty-year struggle of five Rocketdyne Cleanup Coalition members Holly Huff, Barbara Johnson, Dawn Kowalksi, Marie Mason, and Bonnie Klea, all of whom have experienced illness that they believe may be related to contamination from the nearby Santa Susana Field Laboratory (SSFL).
The Boeing Comany, which owns the largest portion of the lab, initially agreed to participate in the CBS program but then later declined. The show notes that responsible parties NASA and DOE have agreed to cleanup the site in an historic agreement signed last December but Boeing alone has to date refused.
